Stock markets decline amid surge in crude oil prices

Market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty edged lower on Monday, weighed down by a sharp rise in crude oil prices amid heightened geopolitical uncertainties.

At 10:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 78599.78 up by 100.61 points or by 0.13 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24594.8 up by 24.15 points or by 0.1 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 78676.98 and intraday low of 78298.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24620.95 and intraday low of 24511.1

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 5092.80,+3.03%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 191.30,+1.76%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1188.55,+1.32%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1364.90,+1.19%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3023.05,+0.77%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 341.25,-1.09%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1940.50,-0.94%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 269.55,-0.81%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1089.10,-0.63%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 389.75,-0.57%), among others.

PSU index was at 21011.56 down by -84.39 points or by -0.4%. Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 399.00,-4.89%), NLC India Ltd. (Rs. 290.00,-4.65%), REC Ltd. (Rs. 355.00,-3.01%), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1245.25,-2.34%), Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Ltd. (Rs. 163.75,-1.86%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4318 , shares advanced were 2364 while 1707 shares declined and 247 were unchanged.
