Sensex surges 200 points; Nifty above 10-k mark

Indian benchmark indices continued to gain momentum during the late noon trading session amid buying in index heavyweights including Sun Pharma, Reliance, Hindustan Unilever and Mahindra and Mahindra among others. The investors are awaiting September CPI inflation and August industrial output data due later today.

At 14:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 32036.02 up by 202.03 points or by 0.63 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10049.5 up by 64.7 points or by 0.65 per cent.

In the positive trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 32043.99 and intraday low of 31813.67 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10052.85 and intraday low of 9977.1.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 537.90,+2.30%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 856.30,+1.89%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1061.00,+1.48%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1235.40,+1.48%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 177.30,+1.37%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 398.15,-1.30%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 920.15,-1.12%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1153.10,-0.63%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 282.20,-0.53%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 266.55,-0.28%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 14194.9 up by 207.37 points or by 1.48%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 262.90,+5.46%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 159.55,+5.24%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 85.85,+4.70%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 314.20,+1.62%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 318.40,+1.50%).

On the sectors, Oil&Gas index was at 15555.18 down by 22.53 points or by 0.15%. Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 254.00,-1.61%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 414.65,-0.75%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 452.60,-0.49%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 169.15,-0.12%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 489.50,-0.09%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2834 , shares advanced were 1682 while 1025 shares declined and 127 were unchanged.
